How do eastern stars greet masons
Inside the center of the star, a pentagram 5-sided figure with an altar is the logo's focal point. The open book upon the altar signifies obedience to God's word. Each of the 5 points of the star are represented by a woman who represents that character within the lectures. Each woman is dressed in a costume, symbolic of which of the 5 heroines she represents. Each of these biblical characters share a lesson in the Masonic virtues: From Mackey's Revised Encyclopaedia of Freemasonry, page , copyright To join the Order, men must be an affiliated Master Mason who is in good standing dues paying member.
Originally, it was required that women members be related directly to a Freemason, either by birth having a grandfather, father, brother, uncle, cousin, etc. Female members may be related to a Freemason in a number of ways, such as mother, wife, widow, daughter, sister, etc.
Your local Chapter will answer your questions and welcome your participation. Your petition will be read in Chapter and submitted to an Investigation Committee composed of Chapter members.
Within a few days of reading your petition, each of the members of the Investigation Committee will contact you to arrange a meeting. They will each ask a few very simple questions, answer any additional questions that you may have, and verify your Masonic affiliation. These meetings also give you an opportunity to meet several Chapter members. The Investigation Committee reports your responses to the Worthy Matron.
The Chapter you intend to join will provide you with a Petition that you must complete. It asks for contact information, information about your Masonic affiliation and information about your general character.
Complete the Petition and return it to the Chapter Secretary with the appropriate fees. The Investigation Committee report will be submitted to the Chapter at a stated meeting where members will vote on your petition. The Secretary will notify you of the results of the election. If favorable, the Secretary will arrange for you to be initiated and receive the Degrees of the Order of the Eastern Star. Chapter protocol for meetings was to dress for evening. In some Chapters, the long, formal dress for members has carried to present day with interpretations in fabric and style.
In some Chapters, only the Chapter officers wear formalwear and the members attending the Chapter wear street length dresses and business suits. And in a few Chapters, formal wear is only used on special occasions and not worn at regular meetings. But even in those instances, we prefer to display a certain level of decorum and presence, expressed through appropriate attire for our events.
You may want to talk to representatives from more than one Chapter in your area to find a good fit for your expectations and preferences. Fraternal life is an attitude of compassion and concern in everything we do not only for our fellow Sisters and Brothers in the Order of the Eastern Star, but to ourselves, our families, our Country, and our faith.
The Order of Eastern Star encourages us in a way of life that each of us want for ourselves, our families and our world. Your financial situation is not considered in the Order. Our members come from all economic stations of life. We make no exclusions based on religious faith. People of any religion may belong to the Order of the Eastern Star. We only require that you hold a belief in a positive Supreme Being. Secret societies are underground and hard to find.
We are easy to find in the community and inclusive in our membership. We do enjoy a distinctive means of identifying one another. Only members are allowed in a closed meeting. There is no mandatory memory work except the means of making yourself known if you wish to visit a Chapter in which you are not known as a member or if you become a Chapter officer. An officer must learn the work associated with the office.
Part 2. Talk to a current member. If you meet the qualifications described above, you may apply to join the OES. The easiest way to do this may be to talk to a friend or relative who is already a member.
This person will most likely be familiar with your local chapter's entry requirements and can give you the advice necessary to make an informed decision about applying for membership. Additionally, this person can serve as an important character reference. Because members of Masonic organizations including OES are required to have good reputations, the word of someone who's already a member can go quite far towards improving your chances of entry.
Contact a local chapter. You don't necessarily have to know an OES member to apply. To start the process yourself, simply contact a chapter near you. The precise entry instructions and requirements for each chapter may vary, so contacting the nearest chapter directly is a good way to ensure that you have exactly the information you need to join. Each of the regional chapter pages in the official OES Grand Chapter listing should contain information on subordinate local chapters near you.
If you can't find this, try getting started by contacting your regional Grand Chapter directly. Petition for membership. Like the Freemasons themselves, the Order of the Eastern Star requires applicants to complete and submit an official petition to be considered for membership. Usually, the petition is a short official form obtained directly from the chapter that demonstrates your eligibility and desire to become a member. Each chapter's precise petition procedure may vary, but, in general, an applicant should expect to provide at least all of the following: Basic personal information name, contact info, etc.
An acknowledgement of belief in a supreme being An acknowledgement that you live in the jurisdiction of the chapter Information about your Masonic status or your relationship to a Mason Sometimes, official documentation of your Masonic status or that of your relation A small application fee usually returned if you are rejected.
Receive a majority of the chapter's vote. Petitions are received and carefully read by the OES chapter as they are submitted. If you are deemed eligible, the members of the chapter will vote on your petition.
This vote determines whether you will be admitted to your chapter or not. If you are determined to be someone who is of good reputation and high moral, ethical, and mental quality, you will likely be admitted. Begin attending your chapter's meetings.
Once you've been admitted to the Order of the Eastern Star, you will be notified and your application fee will be retained by the chapter. Meetings of Masonic organizations are kept closed to outsiders, so it's not possible to say exactly what you'll talk about or do at your first meeting other than that it will be perfectly safe, dignified, and completely in line with high Masonic morals. However, it's worth noting the following official information about membership in the OES: [8] X Research source Members may commit as much of their time as they wish Your financial wealth does not determine your membership There is no mandatory work for OES members Members are not required to compromise their faith or their patriotism as part of their membership.
Not Helpful 4 Helpful If you left JD honorably, via age limit or marriage, you should have been made a Majority Member. There is a ceremony for that, and they should have given you a slip for your wallet verifying you as a Lifetime Majority Member.
Contact your bethel about that. As long as you can prove you are related to a Master Mason, even if he has passed on, you can be considered for Eastern Star. Not Helpful 8 Helpful If your father is in good standing with his lodge, then yes you can. On the petition you list how you are related and what lodge they belong to.
