Kplu why is seattle so white

Despite some profanity and occasional overt suggestions of mental deficiencies, the Reddit thread was a civil discussion. All water cooler talk—for now, anyway. Pingback: Are Seattle protests a good time-or biding time? U name it I experienced it everything just short of physical violence and I still like white people because I grow up living in the white suburbs of California, Seattle and Canada so I knew that the white people in Bellingham, WA was not a reflection of the average white person.

Mississippi has aced race relations! But I have to move because it is not many things to do here outside of eating, sleeping, working, going to church or a high school ball game and I require the city over the country any day now.

California to Bellingham to Seattle to Mississippi and maybe back to Seattle is certainly experiencing a wide range of the country. If I was going to live anywhere in Washington State it would be Seattle. Seattle is like Disneyland for a Bisexual Liberal such as myself and my family and I plan on moving back to Seattle in the near future.

If you are Black stay as far away from Bellingham, WA as you can get. We moved here from L. My kids were easy to spot on the playground, as mostly Asians were enrolled at their small Christian school. Lack of diversity was a difficult adjustment when we moved to Southeast King County.

Shocked by racist comments by someone down the street on our first and only visit. We later adopted two children from Vietnam and they experienced a bit of racist comments — some just plain dumb. My daughter was very good in math. In class one day with the other Asian kids, they were complaining about the pressure to succeed they receive from their parents. Over my four decades as a journalist, I have written a lot of stories involving racial issues.

It is not uncommon for a racial majority in Seattle, whites to think everything is fine while a racial minority here, blacks perceives a real problem. That the Reddit thread was started by a white person complaining about being dissed by blacks, rather than the other way around, is unusual but perhaps more illuminating. I think many racial tensions have economic roots, such as the issue of Central District gentrification.

I find this interesting as I grew up in central wash. This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Learn how your comment data is processed. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Home About William P. They have never had to ride against the wind.

It is about leveraging the infrastructure of racist repression. A white neighbor and friend told me he was a victim of racism because he went to a black bar and people there were not nice to him so his feelings were hurt. I asked him whether he thought those black people could have had the police come and beat him up for being white in a black bar. He admitted he was never afraid of that. Then he understood what racism is.

Some think people are being too sensitive, especially when it comes to microaggressions. They may just be ignorant or curious or you may be overly sensitive. An aggressor is someone doing something purposely.

The nearest analogy is very fine sandpaper on wood. So it destroys people, cultures and identities. Also, I agree that microaggression stems from ignorance. And some said they would like to be more sensitive to issues discussed in the videos. I am a strong, compassionate, resilient human. I think that from now on, I will challenge myself to stop being defensive and listen. Sure maybe I have never been racist, but have I questioned the advantages that society gives me based off of skin color?

Have I asked my white friends how we can be a part of the solution? Some people think using these words, particularly white privilege and white fragility, to talk about race and our racial differences divides us more. The only constant similarity has been to blame white people.

I think white people are sick of being blamed, especially when they see people of other cultures having the same problems and the answer is to blame white people. If we continue to divide everyone by race, then we are only furthering racism in our children.
