Great stuff how much is in a can
I'm no mathematician but I did once order 27 cubic yards of concrete by the teaspoon. Reply to Daniel. Just for fun I just emptied a full 16 oz can of great stuff and found it would make approx. Was this helpful?
Reply to danlamour. After searching for the answer to how much a can of expansion foam creates, I found your post. Thank you, I was just telling my sweetheart that we should empty a can into an empty box. You saved me that task Mathguy, Pi x d is circumference. You should change your name to big dummy.
I hope you don't have a student loan for that education! Reply to marklhelmick. TimR Contact options for registered users.
For any given job you need slightly more than one can. That's one of those rules that ought to have a name. Then you throw away the rest because there's no good way to clean out the straw and as far as I know you can't buy another.
Reply to TimR. It's formulated to fill the space around windows and doors without excess expansion. Look for cans labeled for use on windows and doors.
Unfortunately, Great Stuff does not list waterproof as one of the properties of this product. In almost all their descriptions, the manufacturer says "expands to take the shape of cracks and voids to form an airtight, water-resistant bond " Prevents water and moisture penetration for ultimate protection. Even though it's more expensive to install than open- cell foam , closed - cell foam is often preferred for home insulation projects because it offers higher R-value — between R-6 and R Latex foams are typically "open cell " and, as a result, can take on water.
It forms a water-resistant outer skin when cured. If wet or uncured foam gets on skin , quickly and carefully wipe it off using a cloth without spreading the foam around then remove residual wet foam using acetone or fingernail polish remover with acetone , or a polyglycol-based skin cleanser or corn oil may be effective. Then wash with soap and plenty of water. For a more general use including gap filling, insulation application or bonding, one of the best expanding foam to buy is FM from Illbruck.
There is no doubt that if you are looking for the best air tight air filler , the FM Pro Foam Air Seal is the perfect spray for general construction joints insulation. Spray foam is more expensive for several reasons: 1 The material is a thermal plastic; a by-product of crude oil. As the price of oil goes up, so does the price of spray foam. The initial cost of spray foam insulation is well worth the investment, when factoring in the overall savings that will be headed your way over the long term.
Re: Can I spray foam insulation myself? Spray foam can be a DIY project but there are some concerns. You must follow the directions and cannot take shortcuts. You have to know the ideal temperature and humidity ranges at which to spray. As the industry leader, Icynene spray foam insulation products offer some of the highest yields available. For instance, Icynene Classic spray foam can yield as much as 20, board feet while our Icynene MD-C - as a medium-density product - can yield as much as 4, board feet.
Open cell spray foam insulation will still dry completely after getting wet. Closed cell foams also do not absorb water, which is very beneficial in flooding zones.
You can use solid pieces of foam and use that as glue The cans really do not hold enough to make any differance. Joined Jan 8, Messages 3, Smeag said:. The problem I seen when I took the wet floor out was the wet foam. When the two part foam is poured in the hull it seals off any way for water to get into the bilge to be pumped out or drained out. The foam was soaked and rotting the floor from the bottem up. The weight of the wet foam was unreal When I put foam back in it I will use the pink or blue closed cell foam and stick it together with a couple cans of the spray foam.
This is just a thought that I came up with if anyone see's a problem with this jump in and let me know. Joined Feb 24, Messages 5, I tried "Great Stuff" against the advice of some people here who know better than to use it. It expands very little and it sticks to aluminum with a vengeance. In short,it is a mess. It has been 3 weeks in my boat and as soon as I can work up the courage it will be removed and replaced by blue styrofoam.

Did I do that Right? If so, it drastically changes the math on the whole thing. It would take 16 Cans to get the 8 cubic feet optimum conditions.
