The Prophet peace and blessings be upon him declared it permissible to kill such insects even in Al-Haram the Holy Mosque of Makkah where hunting is originally impermissible.

Thus the Prophet peace and blessings of Allah be upon him told us that they are harmful pests, and that they are unlike other animals which do not do harm, and so he told us to kill them whether we are in ihram or not. If other creatures such as ants, cockroaches or dung-beetles cause harm, they may also be killed with insecticides or other means. Thus, it is recommended to kill every harmful insects and crawling thing [the Arabic word hasharat includes both insects and arachnids], like scorpions, lice, mosquitoes, or fleas.

Even harmless insects which are the ones that do not cause serious diseases, If they negatively affect your life or households by damaging the property or causing chaos, hurting children let alone the uncleanliness caused by their existence in the house, it is then permissible to kill them.

Q: Is it permissible to burn or kill by water the insects that are found in houses, such as ants and cockroaches? A: If these insects are harmful, it is permissible to kill them by insecticides and the like, not by burning.

The Prophet peace be upon him said : Five kinds of animals are harmful and may be killed even in the Haram all areas within the Sacred Sanctuary of Makkah : The crow, the kite, the scorpion, the mouse, and the rabid dog [1].

According to another authentic narration, the viper was mentioned among the animals that may be killed. This authentic Hadith reported from the Prophet peace be upon him indicates the permissibility of killing harmful creatures, such as ants, cockroaches, mosquitoes, flies, and predators. However, if ants cause no harm, they are not to be killed.

The Prophet peace be upon him prohibited killing ants, bees, hoopoes, and sparrow-hawks. However, when harm is perceived, they take the same ruling of the harmful animals mentioned in the Hadith. There is an obvious need for this beneficial method of killing nuisance insects. A fatwa has been issued by contemporary scholars stating that this method of killing insects is permissible: The scholars of the Standing Committee for Issuing Fatwas were asked: What is the ruling on killing insects with electric shocks, knowing that the Prophet blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him enjoined killing properly and slaughtering properly?
